. . . A Wiki for writers who collaborate to create great writing!

A Picture is Worth a 1000 Words

This collaborative writing project will give you a chance to analyze this photograph to write about your point of view.

* Read the four prompts below, discuss and write your ideas on your group page.

(Each group will add their own point of view.)  Read each group's point of view.  Did the other group's point of view surprise you?

* Write ideas from your group (click on your group's page) answering the following questions:

Our Observations:

Describe exactly what you see in the photo.  The idea is to help someone who has not seen the photo to visualize it.

We see a Native American women carrying her baby.  The blanket she is holding isn't a Native American blanket.  It looks like the picture was staged in a studio.

Connections:

Describe your personal feelings or judgments about this photo.  Go back and read "Our Observations" as you write your personal impressions.

It looks sad.  She isn't wearing her blanket, she is moving from her traditional life into a reservation.  Maybe her blanket was one of the smallpox blankets

Prior Knowledge:

What do you already know (or think) you know about what is in the photo?

Conclusions or Inferences:

What can you conclude or infer about the photo or what is happening in the photo?
